Study Success - 3 Proven Tips For Eliminating Study Anxiety

Are you feeling study anxiety? Are you not sure how to study effectively?

These feelings are extremely common prior to any test or exam, however by following simple techniques your emotions and feelings before any test or exam can change dramatically and in turn help you to produce your best work when it counts.

Did you know that study anxiety can have a major effect on your end results? By studying effectively you will reduce your anxiety and you will feel much more positive going into any test or exam.

So how do you eliminate study anxiety prior to a test or exam?

Here are three great tips for doing just that:

1) Find out as much as you possible can about what is likely to be in your test. The more you know about what to expect, the more comfortable you will feel about what you need to focus on. My tip is to ask your teacher or lecturer as many questions as you can about what will be in the test. They want you to pass and if you ask them enough, you are likely to get little bits of information that will get you going in the right direction and greatly improve your study success.

2) Don't start too early but don't start too late. In order to study effectively, it is obviously important not to start too late in your preparations. This puts undue pressure and study anxiety on you and you begin feeling overwhelmed. On the other hand if you are a procrastinator, its also best not to start too early, because you then feel as though you have all the time in the world and you end up wasting a lot of time which could be used doing other productive things. My advice is to go hard for a good but short amount of time. If it is a major exam, I like to start preparing 2 weeks before hand, but I study intensely for that whole period. If its a smaller test, then less time is more appropriate, but you want to give yourself enough time to repeat and go over the material at least 10 times for it to sink in.

3) Study by yourself. It seems like fun studying with someone else, but at the end of the day how much productive do you think you will be? To study effectively you must study productively. It always pays to talk with other class mates to go through any areas that you are unsure of, but when it comes to actually studying your material it much better to go it alone for greater study success.

Plants are shaped by cultivation and men by education. .. We are born weak, we need strength; we are born totally unprovided, we need aid; we are born stupid, we need judgment. Everything we do not have at our birth and which we need when we are grown is given us by education.

(Jean Jacques Rousseau, Emile, On Philosophy of Education)
